Ways to Give

AWC’s work is almost completely funded by generous community support. Without donations, we could not continue to provide the quality of care, medications, and services that we do today.

Tiffany’s Story

For years, the constant pain of bilateral hip dysplasia kept Tiffany, a woman without health insurance, from living the life she dreamed of. Walking, even with a cane, was a challenge, and basic tasks like bending over to touch the ground or reaching her feet were impossible. Sleep, too, became a nightly struggle as she could not find relief from the persistent pain. "It was really hard to walk around without a cane," she recalls, "and even walking with a cane was difficult." Her quality of life was severely impacted, leaving her feeling trapped in her own body.

Helping Hands

Everything changed when Tiffany, sick with the flu, visited a local clinic called Freedom from Bondage. There, a compassionate tech told her about the Athens Wellness Clinic. She quickly connected with Nurse Hollett, who introduced her to the possibility of free surgery for her hip issue. "I was so grateful," Tiffany says, reflecting on her initial encounter with the clinic. The process of receiving care was smooth, with thorough guidance on how to access services, and soon she was preparing for surgery with the help of an orthopedic surgeon and the medical team at the clinic.

The surgery and recovery process was life-changing. Tiffany describes her experience with the orthopedic team as "awesome" and "very professional," highlighting the use of an app, the Force app, which provided physical therapy exercises before and after the procedure. She also appreciated the in-person class she attended, which gave her a deeper understanding of the process. "This program has made a world of a difference for me," Tiffany shares with gratitude. Now, pain-free and able to move more freely, she is looking forward to doing the things she loves, like hiking, long walks, and enjoying time at the river—activities she never thought possible before the surgery. Thanks to the Athens Wellness Clinic, Tiffany is living her life again!

“A person's contribution to the community in which they live can be great or small and is special and unique to each individual, but it all starts with them being physically and mentally well.”
