Intern Spotlight: Nika Shlomi
Nika Shlomi has been a Volunteer Medical Assistant at Athens Wellness Clinic since January 2025, and in just her first year, she has become an integral part of the Clinic’s team.
After she graduates, Nika plans to attend medical school and pursue a career as a physician. She first learned about Athens Wellness Clinic through her sister Kai, who had also volunteered at AWC and spoke highly of the experience. Hearing about the Clinic’s work and culture made Nika eager to get involved herself.
Nika was drawn to AWC in search of hands-on clinical experience within a caring, team-oriented environment, and she says the Clinic has exceeded her expectations. She values the opportunity to work within a diverse scope of care while learning alongside compassionate providers and volunteers who are deeply committed to their patients.
What Nika loves most about volunteering at AWC is the supportive environment. From the beginning, she felt comfortable asking questions and learning through guidance and encouragement. She sees that same support reflected in how the team works together and how patients are treated, describing the Clinic community as one of the kindest and most thoughtful groups she has ever been part of.
In her role, Nika works across multiple areas of the Clinic. She assists in the lab with phlebotomy, urinalysis, and Hepatitis C testing, helps with patient intake, performs ear irrigations, and supports providers whenever needed. This wide-ranging experience has allowed her to grow both clinically and professionally.
Outside of the Clinic, Nika enjoys discovering new music, dancing (especially line dancing), reading, exploring new food spots, and spending time with friends, family, and loved ones.
We are grateful for Nika’s energy, compassion, and dedication to patient care, and we’re excited to see her continue to grow as she works toward her future in medicine!
